The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Sokoto State Chapter has honoured the Sokoto state Chief Judge, Justice Mohammed Sa’idu Sifawa , President Nigerian Bar Association, Yakubu Maikyawo and other judges elevated to high court judges and Khadis of the Sharia Court of Appeal
Speaking during event attended by who is who in the Judiciary cross Nigeria, the Sokoto state Chairman of the association barrister Muhammad Nuhu, said it is usual for the association to rejoice and celebrate members who excelled in the profession or were elevated to a high statues.
Barr. Nuhu said those honoured included 2 Khadis of the Sharia Court of Appeal, 5 state high court judges, 3 federal high Court judges, and special recognition to 3 more federal High Court judges.
“Within the scope of three years, about 13 high Court judges and 6 Sharia Court of Appeal Judges who are members of the Association were appointed in the state which called for celebration by the state body,” he said.
Nuhu lauded the contributions of the chief judge Justice Muhammad Saidu Sifawa, who according to him was instrumental to the appointments, elevations and the total overhauling and renovation of the state high Court which is the best in the country.
He however, noted that the state government has through the effort of the current chief judge appointed over 40 Magistrates and established and opened many magisterial districts around the state
Speaking on the NBA president, Nuhu said that the state chapter decided honour the president of the association Yakubu Mai Kyau who according to him was once a member of the state body and in view of his utmost contribution to the development of the state chapter
He said the president of the NBA has appointed several members of the association in the state into various national committees over the years which enhanced the branch’s capacity to excel in many of their activities.
Nuhu lauded members of the noble profession pursuing cases at election tribunals for their ethical conduct, despite working under intense pressure from their clients and tribunal judges who were given a time frame to conclude their national assignment.
