NBA calls out police over brutality of legal practitioners 

The president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has condemned incessant brutality of legal practitioners by the Nigerian police.

While dwelling on the sad practice, he described such an incident as an attack on the entire legal profession. 

He stated this Tuesday while hosting members of the NBA National Litigation Committee at the NBA House, Abuja, where he was briefed on their recent activities aimed at safeguarding the rights and welfare of lawyers across Nigeria.

The meeting, among other things, underscored the NBA’s dedication to promoting justice, accountability, and respect for the rule of law in Nigeria, while fostering a safe and enabling environment for legal practitioners to thrive.

At the gathering, he reassured the committee of the NBA’s unwavering determination to ensure justice is served in the matter.

At the meeting, there were significant updates from the meeting over recent legal action initiated by the NBA at the Federal High Court against the Nigerian Police on behalf of Mr. Ernest Chukwuemeka Okpaga. 

Mr. Okpaga, a legal practitioner was unlawfully detained and assaulted by officers of the Nigerian Police Force at the National Cyber Crime Centre in Abuja.
