NAWOJ exco pays advocacy visits on NUJ, others

The newly elected executive of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT chapter, has paid advocacy visits on the national leadership of the Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ) and that of NAWOJ as part of effort reposition the chapter.
The executive, led by its Chairperson, Comrade Stella Okoh-Esene, also visited the Executive Editor, Leadership Newspapers, Ms Catherine Agbo and the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Great Green Wall, Mrs. Larai Dazai, amongst others, to seek support and collaboration on programmes that would enhance members’ development.
A press statement by the chapter’s Secretary, Mrs. Grace Njoku, said the chairperson during the visit to NUJ national secretariat solicited the support and guidance of the union to enable the chapter grow to greater heights.
Okoh-Esene said “my executive is determined to ensure that the chapter performs its constitutional role effectively hence we welcome counsels, support and collaborations that will bring about the realization of this goal.”
NUJ National Secretary, Mr. Shuaibu Leman, who received the team on behalf of the union’s president, urged the executive to work towards improving professionalism among its members
He tasked them to encourage more women journalists’ participation in unionism, stating: “I look forward to the day when a female journalist will be elected the chairman of NUJ, FCT council.”
On her part, NAWOJ national president commended the chairperson over her victory noting that she is an experienced member of the association hence equipped to meet the challenges that come with her new office.
Mrs. Omowole urged the new executive to work towards adding value to NAWOJ as that is the only way to make other practising female journalists develop interest in the association.
