Navy flags off exercise Eagle Eye

The Nigerian Navy will today begin (NN) a three-day sea exercise code-named Eagle Eye II in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
Its spokesperson, Navy Capt. Suleiman Dahun, said in a statement that the exercise would involve the deployment of several “capital ships, naval helicopters and patrol boats.”
The statement read: “During the Exercise, naval drills such as communication exercises, gunnery exercises, man overboard and ship maneuvers amongst others will be conducted.
“The objective of the Exercise is to assess the readiness and operational state of the NN Fleet and the capability of operation commands in the conduct of riverine and choke point operations.”
Continuing, it read: “The Exercise will also demonstrate to the public NN operational engagements and other efforts to address contemporary challenges within the maritime environment. It will also create an enabling environment for sustenance of desired level of hydrocarbon production, safety of shipping and other economic activities in the Niger Delta area and the Economic Exclusive Zone in support of national development. It is expected that at the end of the Exercise investors’ confidence on the security in the Nigerian maritime environment will be strengthened.”
