Navy destroys illegal refineries, arrests suspects

Nigerian Navy has said that it had accosted two Cotonou boats loaded with suspected illegal refined AGO at Onne anchorage.
Navy spokesperson, Rear Admiral Christian Ezekobe said in a statement that the boats were destroyed and no arrest was made as the suspect fled on sighting the Nigerian Navy men in operations carried out by  NNS PATHFINDER.
He said the suspects fled on sighting the Nigerian Navy personnel.

“ In another operation criminal elements attempt to vandalize and siphon oil product from one of the arrested vessels was foiled by the Nigerian Navy personnel in FOB FORMOSO,” he said.
“ The oil thieves however fled and abandoned the 3 Cotonou boats they brought for their criminal act. The boats are currently in the custody of FOB FORMOSO, while adequate security measure has been provided to prevent any unforeseen situation.”
According to the Navy spokesperson, patrol team of NNS DELTA also recorded “operational success” as  it destroyed four illegal refinery with about 30 metric tones of illegally refined AGO and three Cotonou boats carrying about 40 metric tones of suspected stolen crude oil.
He said five suspects and 40HP outboard engine were arrested, while two pumping machine were recovered during the operation.
