Nigerian Navy (NN) under operation code named “Delta Sanity 1” Thursday said it recorded a huge success within the period covered in the last one year of operation.
The NN said in 2024, a total of 215 suspects and 26 vessels were arrested while 468 Illegal refinery sites were deactivated.
It added that an estimated quantity of 6.5million litres of stolen crude oil and 7million litres of illegally refined Automated Gas Oil (AGO) were seized and appropriately handled.
NN stated this during a flagged off ceremony of Operation Delta Sanity II, flagged off by the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and Oil, Senator Hieneken Lokpobiri, in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
The NN through the director of Information, Commodore, Adams Aliu, in a statement signed and made available to Blueprint on Thursday stated that on December 30, 2024, the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and Oil, Senator Hieneken Lokpobiri, flagged off the Operation DELTA SANITY II at Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Pathfinder in Port Harcourt Rivers State.
“Recall that Operation DELTA SANITY I was launched by the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla in January, 2024, as a major anti-crude oil theft operation with the deployment of personnel, patrol boats, helicopters and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
“Since then, the operation has been a huge success where the NN recorded a total of 215 suspects and 26 vessels arrested while 468 Illegal refinery sites were deactivated. Estimated quantity of 6.5million litres of stolen crude oil and 7million litres of illegally refined Automated Gas Oil (AGO) were seized and appropriately handled in 2024.”
