National energy information system will ensure better energy planning – ECN

The Director-General/CEO Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, has said that the National Energy Information System will improve energy data quality as well as energy planning.   

The ECN Director General, who said this at the official launch of the Computerized National Energy Information System, in Abuja, also said it would serve as a repository of bankable energy data in the country.

The event was organized by the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) in collaboration with the ECOWAS Commission.

While noting that its mandate of strategic planning and coordination of national energy policies, the DG said the Commission collates, analyses and publishes data that guides policy makers during energy planning.    

Abdullahi said the collated data would serve as inputs into the development, operation and maintenance of the National Energy Information System, and will be accessed by researchers, development partners, individuals and organizations to plan, make informed decisions and take effective actions in the management of energy supply, use and costs.
