The Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, has urged the chieftains of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that the National Assembly is interested in the speedy completion of the proposed NFF-FIFA Players’ Hostel and Training Pitches project.
The project will provide first-class hotel services and training facilities for all the national teams of Nigeria going forward with the timeline of two years.
Abbas, who was the Special Guest of Honour at the Groundbreaking Ceremony of NFF-FIFA Players’ Hostel & New Training Pitches held at Package B ofMoshood Abiola National Stadium Abuja on Tuesday, said that NASS especially the House of Representatives is very happy with NFF for this noble initiative to build its own hospitality and training facilities in Abuja which is been bankrolled by the world football governing body, FIFA.
The elated Speaker therefore promised that the Green Chamber, which he leads will be in the forefront to plead the case for the Federal government’s support should the NFF seek government’s intervention in the course of building the facilities.
Abbas unveiled the plaque to commemorate the official Groundbreaking of the project before leaving the venue with representatives from FIFA, Ambassador from Morocco and Cuba in attendance.
Other top dignitaries that witnessed the epoch occasion include football stakeholders, former internationals Segun Odegbami, Samson Siasia, Victor Ikpeba, Dominic Iorfa , Maureen Madu, NFF executive board members and several football stakeholders.
Meanwhile, the NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau was full of praises for FIFA for the provision of funds under the FIFA 3.0 initiative, which helps FIFA Member Associations (MAs) to build facilities for the use of their national teams.
The NFF-FIFA Players’ Hostel, is a 68-room facility, almost directly opposite the NFF Secretariat. It is a two-wing edifice, with A and B sections, and has a total of 62 single rooms, four suites, and two executive suites.
