Nation-building and unemployment 

It has been observed that many able men in Nigeria have been wallowing for long with challenges of unemployment in Nigeria today as many people are frustrated with wide spread of joblessness and sadly, the high level of unemployment in Nigeria has led to different types of criminal and illicit activities among unemployed Nigerians such as armed robbery, illegal oil lifting, kidnapping, cybercrime, banditry, prostitution, socio-economic instability in the nation, poor living standard, financial threat of dependency, borrowing, psychological trauma etc.

According to 2020 data 33.3% or 21.2 million of 70 million people who should be working in Nigeria are out of work indicating that Nigerian government has derailed from providing assistance to various agencies in creating jobs for its citizens. The most worrisome issue is that the labour market is not able to provide jobs for everyone who can work and the degree of frustration at which unemployed youths are roaming about is alarming. This has led to disorganization of Nigerian co- existence and national development. The end result of this menace is a threat to nation building, peace, security, socio-economic and political activities.

Nation building entails utilization of available infrastructure to the development of people and to foster social harmony, complete cohesion and economic growth. It is the political and socio-economic stability of a country that brings about peaceful co-existence. 

The Concept of Educational Technology entails skill and knowledge acquisition, hardware and software production, facilities and equipment utilization in order to solve education problems and other challenges. It is the application of both artistic and scientific knowledge about learning and condition of learning and these Involves planning, designing, producing, utilization, management and evaluation of educational problems. These application is possible by using both human and non-human resources in a systematic way.

The skills and knowledge to consider include psychological and philosophical skill, vocational and technical education, fine and creative art skills, computer/ information technology skills and these skills can be used to create Jobs in the following areas:

BUSINESS CENTRES CREATION: Skill acquired from vocational and technical education can be used to establish business centers where photocopiers, computers, laptops, scanners etc. can be used in typing, designing, processing and printing documents. This will help in creating jobs for the unemployed youths and thus contribute to nation building by reducing high rate of de- pendency, crime and moral decadence.

PHOTOGRAPHIC STUDIO: Skills acquired from fine and creative arts and also computer science will enable job seekers to easily establish photographic studio that will create ready employment such youth can establish photo industry whereby photographs can be taken, developed and printed for certain monetary exchange.

VIEWING CENTRES: Individuals can establish private viewing centers in order to make a living as a result of psychological knowledge, setting avenues to watch games, football matches and moves.

FINE ART GALLERIES: Still acquired from fine and creative art in educational technology can be used to create jobs as art works, paintings and craft are produced and sold to interested individuals when displayed in galleries. 

PRIVATE SCHOOL ESTABLISHMENT: Skill acquired from psychology and philosophy acquired can help interested individuals to establish private schools at all levels thus serving to provide jobs for many other youths.

TELEVISION AND RADIO: Maintenance workshop jobs can be created through establishment of television and radio maintenance workshops from knowledge in electronic and electrical engineering acquired from educational technology.

Recommendation proposed for objectives of educational technology skills towards nation building and job creation in Nigeria by providing teachers in educational technology centres and to freely train the unemployed. More so, more attention should be shifted to educational technology.
