NASS honours Tejuosho for championing disability rights

 

In celebration of the 2024 World Disability Day, founder of the Queen Adenike Tejuosho Foundation, Ambassador Dr. Halimat Tejuosho, Wednesday, bagged the prestigious National Assembly Award of Excellence.

The recognition was presented by Hon. Bashiru Dawodu, Chairman of the House Committee on Disability Matters, acknowledging her tireless efforts to uplift persons with disabilities in Nigeria and dedication to empowering vulnerable communities.

Meanwhile, Tejuosho joined the disability community at Unity Fountain in Abuja to celebrate the World Disability Day, with the theme: “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.”

Speaking at the event, Tejuosho reminded all individuals with disabilities of their boundless potential, stating, “There is ability in disability.” 

She reflected on the transformative work being done to ensure persons with disabilities are not only seen but heard and included in all aspects of society. 

She emphasised the necessity for increased advocacy, urging both government bodies and organizations to collaborate in creating an environment where persons with disabilities have equal access to opportunities. 

She underscored the significance of providing platforms for disabled persons to lead and contribute to the ongoing development of Nigeria, which in turn helps build a more inclusive, sustainable future for everyone.

She highlighted the importance of inclusion and leadership in shaping a better future for all, stressing on love, strength, and resilience continues to inspire and uplift the community.
