The Nasarawa state government said it would screen it’s local government staffs across the 13 local government areas and 18 development areas in order to ascertain the actual number of staffs in each local councils.
Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on public affairs to the governor, Comrade Peter Ahemba, disclosed this at the weekend on Friday, during a press briefing at the NUJ centre in Lafia.
Ahemba explained that it was discovered that the LGs, especially development areas have over blotted staffs, therefore, the screening has become imperative in order to ascertain the actual number of staffs in each of the local councils.
He said government has constituted a five man committee to fish out ghost workers across the 13 local government areas and development areas in the state.
He said the decision was the outcome of a recent meeting of the state Economic Council, chaired by the deputy governor, Emmanuel Akabe, which resolved to constitute a five-man committee to look into the matter.
Ahemba explained further that local government chairmen have been encouraged to embark on massive agricultural activities to help in growing the food security policy of the state government.
“Two tractors each, was given recently by the Vice President Kashim Shettima, during his one day visit to the state to serve as booster and source of encouragement to all LG councils in the state,” he said.
He therefore, narrated that state economic council has equally directed all LGAs to submit proposals to the council before using the recent N400m signatures grant that accrued to each of the LGs in the state.
