The Nasarawa state government has earmarked N40.16 billion to be spent in the education sector in the 2024 budget of N199,9bn representing 20 percent.
The state Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Planning, Hajiya Munira Abdullahi, stated this on Friday, during the breakdown of the 2024 state budget proposal in Lafia.
She explained that education is the topmost priority of the state government which was why it allocated 20 percent of its 2024 budget in compliance with UNESCO’s recommendation.
She added that the budget was made up of N113.123bn as recurrent expenditure and N86.8bn for capital expenditure.
The commissioner further said that the 2024 budget proposal will pay more attention to the construction of rural roads and the creation of job opportunities for women and youths.
She added that government will install Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) and Cameras in Lafia the state capital and environs as part of measures to address prevailing trends including insecurity to pave the way for development to thrive.
She noted that the security devices will be provided to major streets and public structures around the Lafia metropolis and some major towns across the 13 local government headquarters in the state to assist in detecting criminal activities
The commissioner therefore, seized the opportunity to remind people of the state that the administration of Abdullahi Sule is attached with lots of importance to accountability, and transparency in the management of public resources.
She said her ministry will closely monitor and track the implantation of all the projects, programmes and policies enunciated in the Fiscal year 2024 budget.
“I therefore, called on all the accounting officers of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the state to be guided by the appropriation law as well as ensure that all revenues due to the state government are property collected and accounted for so that our set targets can achieved.”
