Nasarawa first lady donates N1m palliative to widows


The wife of the Nasarawa state governor, Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule, Monday, donated N1 million to widows in Nku community Akwanga Local Government Area (LGA) as palliative.

She said the measure was to support the widows in the community to engage in petty businesses that would keep them and their children alive.
“I charge you to invest the money donated to you to enhance your living conditions and that of your orphans left behind by your late husbands,” he said.

Silifat who also frowned at the tradition that a man will forcefully take over a widow as his wife described it as barbaric and insisted it should no longer be condoned in any community.
Speaking, the Chin Nku, Mr. Habila Adamu Aboki, said he was motivated by the plight of the widows hence his resolve to provide them with the palliatives to cushion their hardship.
He said he had concluded arrangements with a team of lawyers to take legal actions against anyone found forcing a widow into marriage in all the 10 communities that make up the Nku Chiefdom.
