Nasarawa state House of Assembly yesterday said it would pass a bill for a law to make provision for the control, prohibit and to restrict grazing of animals in urban centres, schools and other designated areas to curtail crises between herdsmen, farmers and other people.
Speaker of the House, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, announced this yesterday after the sponsor of the bill, the Deputy Majority Leader, Mr. Daniel Ogazi, presented the bill for second reading.

Balarabe-Abdullahi said the bill would not only tackle herdsmen, farmers’ crise, but would also reduce road accidents caused by animals moving freely without been controlled by the animal rearers.
He added that the bill would also curtail attitudes of residents who form the habit of rearing animals such as pigs, sheep, goats, cows among other domestic animals, especially on the highway as well as herdsmen who grazed in urban centres, schools, among others.

“We believe that this bill if passed will not only reduce farmers/herdsmen crisis, but will also curtail unnecessary accidents which at times result to death due to uncontrolled animals, especially in city centres and rural areas.
“This bill if passed will also bring peace and harmonious co-existence among the people of the diverse ethnic, religious and political groups in the state,” he said.
The speaker, however, directed its Standing Committee on Agriculture to work on the bill for its passage into law.
The House unanimously commended the sponsor for initiating it, adding that it would promote peaceful co-existence in the state.
