NAOWA inaugurates renovated skill acquisition centre in Sokoto

The Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) 8 Division, Sokoto has inaugurated the remodelled skills acquisition centre renovated by zonal coordinator, 8 Division & Garrison Mrs Anne Omoh Tawasimi

Speaking while inaugurating the centre on Wednesday, chairperson of NAOWA 8 Division Sokoto, Mrs. Meg Ndidi Ajose, who was the special guest of honour, said the effort was to compliment the federal government skills acquisition training initiative aimed at promoting self reliance.

Mrs. Ajose highlighted that based on the government initiative, students at all levels were advised to combine educational learning with skills acquisitions training in order to boost productive engagements in all sectors as white colour jobs are no longer easy to come by

“The renovated centre was equipped with modern equipment and specialized instructors, training people on tailoring, catering, handcraft, beauty makeup, computer literacy and others,” Mrs Jose stated

“We are not only providing a conducive learning environment for our children, but also empowering them with the knowledge, skills and values necessary to succeed in life.

“I urge instructors, youths, women and other category of students to make good use of the facilities in the school, ” Ajose said.

The Chairperson called on citizens to join NAOWA on its strive for academic excellence, foster a culture of innovation and creativity as well as cultivate a sense of community and social responsibility in the formation.

The Chairperson commended the NAOWA Zonal Coordinator and Wife of 8 Division Garrison Commander, Mrs Ann Tawasimi, on her tireless efforts and sacrifices for making the project a reality.

In her remarks , another NAOWA Zonal Coordinator, Mrs Anne Omoh Tawasimi, said currently there were 115 women taking different skill acquisitions from departments in the center.

She added that the center represented more than just a physical structure, as it symbolises hope, opportunity and a brighter future for the children.

According to zonal coordinator, the facility has the headteacher’s office, classes, four toilets and a staff room, that are all furnished to provide conducive atmosphere for learning

In her vote of thanks, a graduating student, Miss Peace Godwin, who spoke on behalf of her colleagues thanked NAOWA for the opportunity, stressing that empowerment training become the window for fruitful engagement in their lives.

The event was attended by representative of General Officer Commanding (GOC), Brig. Gen. S. Adamu and highlight of the event included unveiling of the center by the NAOWA Chairperson and display of cultural dance.
