NANS plan protest over killing of 300level student, as Ogun orders investigation

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and it’s affiliate bodies has declared a total shutdown of the Governor’s Office, Oke Mosan and Benin-Ore Expressway, Monday June 5, 2023.

This, according to the student apex body is a solidarity protest against the unjust killing of a 300-level Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) student by suspected vigilantes.

A statement signed by Comrade Damilola Kehinde, the Chairman, NANS JCC/Ogun Axis and Ogunrombi Gbemileke, the NAOSS National President, stated that, “having exhausted all other means of peaceful resolution to no avail, we’re now under constraint to take to the streets to further press our demands.

“Despite several consultations and consolidations, none of the assailants have been arrested and our innocent students still remain incarcerated up till now”.

Meanwhile, the Ogun state government has assured that those responsible for the killing of the 300-level student of the institution will not go unpunished.

The government, in a statement issued Sunday, and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Waheed Adesina, condemned the dastardly act, while disclosing that the police have been instructed to invite all concerned, including the Baale of Imaweje village where the incident took place and unravel the immediate and remote causes of the death of the student.

Adesina said the state government strongly condemned the killing of the student, saying it was one death too many. He said no one has the right to take law into their own hands, assuring that every action necessary would be taken to punish all those involved.

The government therefore appealed to the students of the institution to remain peaceful and law abiding, while waiting for the outcome of the police investigation.

It assured that such incidents will not be allowed to happen again anywhere in the state.
