Ahead of next month’s general elections, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Wednesday displayed their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in support of President Goodluck Jonathan’s Re-election.
The decision would be backed with its final endorsement rally where millions of Nigerian students would converge next week at the Eagle Square in Abuja.
Speaking in Abuja at a One-day National Student Solidarity Rally in support of Jonathan, NANS President, Comrade Tijani Usman, said “this is to prove the Nigerian students capacity at making a difference in the forthcoming polls.”
Tijani, who maintained the association’s stand on peaceful, free and fair elections, stated that he together with all Students Union Government (SUG) leaders would not hesitate to do everything humanly possible to ensure that their votes and polling units were protected.
According to him, this is in effort to further compliment the transformation agenda of Jonathan especially in the education sector.
In her remarks, the NANS Matron, Dr, Merit Odua, urged leadership of the student association to avoid being
enticed saying that “you alone can determine your future.”
She said: “We want to reaffirm that because our students will be in school, our students will be the ones to man the polling units and as we speak to you, we have over two thousand polling units to be mounted by our various leaders.
“Before I progress, I want to tell you that we have had various meetings in our various places and we want to believe that at this series of meetings we have had will manifest itself within the very short possible time.
This can be achieved only if we can prove and show our capacity. This is Nigerian students operation show your PVC. Now, I urge you all to show your voter card, that’s to show the world that we are fully prepared to vote President Goodluck Jonathan.”
