Naija Super 8 qualifiers: Rivers United,   Katsina United advance 

For the second time in few days, Rivers United has confirmed their supremacy over Bendel Insurance by beating them 3-2 in the Naija Super 8 match decided Sunday evening at Eket Township Stadium in Akwa-Ibom state.

Bendel Insurance who just won the 2023 Federation Cup at the expense of Rangers in Asaba last week came back from a goal to equalize against the Garden City team.

It was Rivers United that ended the longest unbeaten run in the Nigeria Premier League after beating Insurance by 2-1 during the NPL Super 8 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos to decide the eventual league champions.

Liberia forward, Albert Korvah opened scoring for Rivers United on 10 minutes.

Bendel Insurance levelled from the spot through Dede Emekoyi on the dot of half time.

Korvah slotted the ball home from close range to restore Rivers United’s lead five minutes after the break.

Morice Chukwu however converted from the penalty spot in stoppage to hand Rivers United victory in the game.

Earlier on Sunday, Katsina’s United Samson Olasofo scored the winning goal as  United defeated Kano Pillars 1-0 to secure a place in the Naija Super 8 finals.

Olasofo slotted home six minutes from time after receiving a pass inside the penalty box.

The Naija Super 8 finals will run from July 7 to July 16.

Five other teams; Remo Stars, Lobi Stars, Yobe Desert Stars, Enyimba and Katsina United have qualified for the Super 8 finals.

All the matches will be played at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.

All the qualified teams will earn N9m each.

The four semi-finalists will get additional N3m, while the finalists will receive another N9m.

The overall winner will take home the N25m prize money.
