NAHCON mulls building hotel for pilgrims

The chairman, National Hajj Commission (NAHCON), Alhaji Abdullahi Mukhtar, has expressed the determination of the commission to build a befitting hotel with the capacity of 500 rooms for Kano pilgrims to be accommodated before they are airlifted to the Holy Land.

Speaking in Kano Friday while inspecting facilities put in place for the conduct of a hitch-free hajj operations, Mukhtar said building a hotel for the pilgrims leaving for pilgrimage through the Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) “has become necessary in view of the need for them to be accommodated properly.”

According to him, the commission has considered pilgrims’ welfare both at home and in the Holy Land as its major cardinal thrust for them to have a sense of belonging and to trust in the commission’s resolve to discharge such an important responsibility.

He said, “We are mooting such idea to instill confidence in the minds of our intending pilgrims to appreciate the fact that we really care about them and always believe that they should enjoy the best of service. The capacity of the hotel we are planning to build would be a befitting one. We want to have a suitable accommodation for them instead of accommodating them in the pilgrims’ camp.”

Mukhtar, however, stated that the commission was already building a hospital at the Hajj camp which had reached the final stage of completion, adding that when completed, the hospital would cater for the needs of pilgrims seeking medical attention before finally leaving Kano for the Holy Land.

Describing Kano as the “leading pace-setter in terms of preparations for this year’s Hajj operations,” the NAHCON chair said the commission had concluded the necessary arrangements aimed at conducting foul-free Hajj operations.

He called on Nigerian pilgrims to be good ambassadors of the country by shunning acts capable of dragging the good reputation of the country in the mud.
