NAFDAC destroy fake and unwholesome products worth N120m

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), yesterday destroyed fake/counterfeit and unwholesome regulated products worth N120 million.
The Director General, NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii, who was represented by the Director, Administration and Human Resources, Mrs. Yetunde Oni, stated during the destruction exercise at Bwari Area Council dump site that the exercise was conducted to intimate the members and the general public that the fight against fake, counterfeit and unwholesome regulated product is in progress.
The Director General also added that the exercise was to ensure the public that NAFDAC will continue to work relentlessly to ensure that the incidence of counterfeiting is curtailed and reduced to the barest minimum.

Orhii said: “Today, we are witnessing the destruction of various categories of products which include expired or spurious, substandard, falsely-labeled, counterfeit medicines and other regulated products worth 120 million naira.”
The DG further added that some of the expired products were voluntarily submitted by various stake holders, while the fake, counterfeit and unwholesome products were mopped up from the open market through enforcement activities and surveillance systems of NAFDAC.
He said: “Indeed, we are faced with daunting challenges as these violators continuously adopt new strategies.
“with your support, the agency will continue to live up to her mandate of safeguarding the health of the nation by ensuring that only safe, efficious and wholesome regulated products are available to the populace.”
