‘NAF trains personnel for security challenges’

Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar, yesterday said the Nigeria Air Force has been training more tactical commanders to respond effectively to all manner of security challenges in the country.

Abubakar said that building the capability of NAF personnel was essential in having an efficient and effective force that would clinically respond to emerging security challenges nationwide.

The Chief of Air Staff spoke at the combined graduation of 230 Senior Regiment Officers Course for Very Important Persons Protection and Special Force Course, held at NAF Regiment Training Centre, Kaduna.

“We have invested in innovative and rapidly deployable base defence asset and technologies that are also adaptable, and we have set in motion integrated defence concept for all NAF personnel,’’ he said.

Abubakar, therefore, charged the personnel to channel their energies and ideas in innovative ways that would add value to the service.

He stressed that NAF would continue to diligently perform its role in defending the territorial integrity, values and aspirations of Nigeria.

The air chief noted that internal strife has continued to create uncertainty and political dynamics ripe for civil disturbances, political upheaval, sectarian violence and insurgency.

“As such understanding the complexity of the situation and planning on how best to influence the emerging battle scenario becomes virile,” he said.

He pledged the unalloyed loyalty and total commitment of NAF to the Federal Government’s efforts at ensuring a peaceful, secure, united and prosperous country.

Leader of the Isreali Training Team, Major Roy Zechut, said ongoing threat of terrorism in the country demands for special unit to deal with extreme and complex situations.

Zechut explained that the training covered technical and tactical capabilities of conducting special operations. (NAN)
