NAF inaugurates fitness centre in Bayelsa

Nigerian Air Force weekend inaugurated a Gymnasium centre to enhance physical and mental fitness of personnel of the NAF Mobility Command, Yanagoa.
While inaugurating the centre, Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, represented by Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Bayelsa Mobility Command, Air Vice Marshal Stephen Onuh, said the centre was designed to also uplift the command and enhance its productive capacity, adding that the centre was one of the key drivers of the NAF human capacity development.
Fitness Centre named after the Chief of Air Staff, was equipped with modern facilities such as rolling machine, spinning bike, eleptic machine, upright bike, trend mile, multi-purpose station machine among others.
“I have no doubt that the facility will go a long way to motivate officers to achieve the desired level of preparedness to meet the operational commitments of the NAS over-changing security environment,” the Air Chief said.
“Physical fitness is also a key determinant of the overall well-being of the individual both to the military and civilians; constant exercise can increase the average life expectancy of individuals.
“We, therefore, hope that the fitness centre will translate to noticeable improvement in the personnel overall physical fitness, security consciousness and loyalty to the nation.”
Commander, Military Joint Task Force (JTF), code named “Operation Delta Safe”, Rear Admiral Suleiman Apochi, commended NAF for putting up the facility.
Apochi noted the importance of physical exercise to military operations hence urged personnel to make good use of the facility diligently.
“This facility is good for military operations; it will boost personnel performance in the course of duty, not only in Bayelsa but Niger Delta and Nigeria at large,” he said.
“We must take physical exercise as part of military routine.”

GOC charges troops to clear remnants of terrorists
Acting General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Benjamin Ahanotu has charged troops 3 Division Tactical (Sector 2) to get ready for final onslaught to clear the remnants of Boko Haram Terrorists in the Division’s Areas of Responsibility.
The GOC gave the charge during his visit to troops of 331 Artillery Regiment, 231 battalion and the Forward Operation Base, Buratai, in commemoration of Nigeria’s 57 lndependent Anniversary.
A statement by the Division’s spokesperson, Col. Kayode Ogunsanya said the GOC commended the troops for being “steadfast” and encouraged them to remain loyal to the service. According to the spokesperson, the GOC stressing that the welfare of troops remains his priority.
“He further admitted that the marshy nature of the terrain due to raining season has caused troops to temporary halt some operational activities,” Ogunsanya said. “He called on the troops to remain alert and be highly conscious as well as to seize the advantage of the period to prepare their body and minds so as to be physically and mentally ready for the final onslaught to clear the Insurgents in their enclaves when the terrain becomes suitable.
