N73bn paid to FCTA contractors – Perm sec

Permanent Secretary, Federal Capital Territory Administration, (FCTA), Mr. Christian Ohaa, has stated that over N73 billion had been paid to both local and foreign contractors, as well as the completion of the obligation of N17.4 billion for the phase one of the Abuja Light Rail project, adding that “these payments saved jobs and injected life in the FCT economy.”
He also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, for “unlocking the economic potentials of the Territory.”
Ohaa, who made this disclosure during a media briefing to mark the Administration’s two years in office.
His said: “The Administration has risen above the temptation to latch unto white elephant new projects, but rather chose the unpopular path of driving to completion, abandoned and ongoing infrastructure projects that have unlocked the economic potentials and improved the physical outlook of the city.”
The occasion was a time for stock taking as the minster, along with the mandate secretaries and heads of agencies regaled media representatives with a litany of accomplishments.
Also speaking, the Managing Director, Abuja Enterprise Agency, Malam Tukur Arabi, disclosed that FCT was setting up One-Stop-Shopping-Centre for MSMEs as a major outcome of the Nationwide MSME Clinics it held in Abuja, in July, this year, in collaboration with the Presidency.
He noted that the Centre was designed to provide a single roof for all business regulatory agencies like NAFDAC, CAC and SMEDAN, among others, in order to facilitate “easy access to these agencies by business start-ups thereby enhancing the Ease of Doing Business in the Territory.”
The Director of Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS), Dr Isa Jalo, said the agency would soon be leveraging cloud technology to ensure customer interface and interoperability with sister agencies.
