My mistakes ‘ve taught me lessons – Okoye

Nigeria’s Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has said he has learnt from his mistakes.

Okoye returned to the Super Eagles fold after he asked to be excused from the team due to what had transpired in the past.

The former Watford FC goalkeeper was verbally attacked by fans after the Super Eagles crashed out, following the loss to the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia at the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The Udinese shot-stopper told Oma TV, how he’s been able to recover from the shock.

Okoye was singled out for the blame after the defeat to the North Africans.

“People will always say something bad about you. I know that I didn’t do good in that situation, and I know that I let my teammates and my country down in that situation.

“And I still to this day feel unhappy and sad about it, and I wish I could do differently, but it happened and I learnt from my mistake”, he said.

After missing the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, Okoye returned to the team for the 2026 World Cup qualifier.
