My greatest gift is how God blessed me to be a Muslim – Dadin Kowa

Mudassir Abdullah Ibrahim known as Dan Arewa is the local government chairman of Dadin Kowa movie at Arewa24. In his interview with IBRAHIM HAMISU in Kano, he talks about his background, experiences and many more in Kannywood.

Background/history

My name is Mudassir Abdullah Ibrahim. I was born in Maiduguri, Borno state, on June 16, 1984. My family later moved from Maiduguri to Kano where I live. I studied Islamiyya and Boko and until now, wherever I go, I always come back here.

How did you find yourself in the Kennywood industry?

I found myself in the film industry since I was in Primary in 1996, where I started by singing songs in school with a friend of mine, Garba Bala. We usually go with a radio when we get out of school and we play with the desk and I usually scroll through the mouth of the recorder and sing. Later, my friends and I started filming in the neighborhood and we hired a camera and we competed among ourselves. That’s how I started until the time I started the programme, Dadin Kowa, and it is still being done until now.

What part of the industry did you specialise in?

I specialise in the struggle for freedom or finding a solution in film.

 What is your debut movie?

My debut film is Dadin Kowa

How did you find yourself in the movie Dadin Kowa?

I started Dadin Kowa through my godfather who is one of the writers of Arewa24 Channel in the person of Nasir Nid.

Did you ever make a movie before Dadin Kowa?

Yes, I once made a film of our childhood with our cameraman; it’s called Makara which we made with my friends, and Falalu A. Dorayu directed the programme at that time.

What kind of success would you say you have achieved in Kannywood?

The biggest success I have had in the film industry is to get work for different communities and interact with each other with generosity and love.

Are there any challenges?

There is a challenge, because in everything a human being wills to do there are challenges they face; one has to fight and that has been my major challenge.

What is that particular aspect of Dadin Kowa that impresses you the most?

There are many places that fascinate me, but none like Where I Speak on Russian Bribery.

Who is your boss in the film industry?

My godfather in Kannywood is writer Nasir Nid.

What is that gift you will never forget?

The gift that was given to me that I will never forget is how God blessed me to be a Muslim.

What are your plans for the future?

My goal in life is to end the world safely.

Between the script writer and film director, who is the most important?

That has to be the script writer, and this is because our life on earth is all written.
