My agenda for Kwara Assembly—Speakership hopeful

A member-elect of the Kwara state House of Assembly, Alhaji Abdullahi Halidu Danbaba on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has promised to ensure effective legislation, and work in synergy with the executive arm of the government if he emerges the next speaker of the House.

Danbaba, who represents Kaiama/Kemanji/ Wojibe State Constituency, in an interview with Blueprint recently in Abuja, said he will ensure critical scrutiny and timely passage of the annual appropriation bills.

The speakership hopeful, who is from the Kwara north senatorial district that is agitating to be the next speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, said under his watch, the House will be accessible to the electorates for petitions and developmental initiatives.

He said: “I long to see a transparent and accountable well strengthened assembly that will provide leadership that serves as the voice of the masses and stand as a bridge between the executive and the electorates, hence free from the executive or other form of external influence. Under my watch, serious attention shall be given to bills presented by members, individuals, groups or organizations.”

Danbaba, who is a former Special Assistant on Non-governmental Affairs in Kwara state, said he has sacrificed for the APC, saying: “I was the Special Assistant on Non-governmental Affairs to the Kwara state governor till 2018, I relinquished this position to join the Kwara 2019 revolution despite being lured with ten million naira (10,000 000) cash supposedly being a part of a contract, the money which I refunded without spending a dime.

“The governor is from the Kwara central, his deputy is from the Kwara South, so the speaker unarguably has to come from the Kwara North. I believe, I am the best candidate for the seat, with my experience in the executive as an appointee, at the local government level and above all a grassroots person, I think nobody is more prepared to lead the 9th Assembly than me”
