Following last week’s accident that led to the death of a dockworker, Comrade ThankGod Ojomah, the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), has officially written to the Sifax Group seeking an urgent meeting.
The dockworker was crushed last Friday at the Warehouse bus stop, along Apapa-Oshodi expressway by a truck belonging to Sifax Group.
Disturbed by the seeming silence on the part of the conglomerate, the maritime union expressed displeasure with the failure of the company to enter into negotiation with the union. It stated that the meeting being sought with the company is to determine the burial arrangement of the late dockworker
According to the letter by the MWUN signed by its acting Secretary General, Comrade Felix Akingboye, the company was accused of being liable of Ojomah’s death as he was “carelessly knocked down in front of your Trinity bonded terminal by your Truck Driver who drove against traffic.
“In view of this foregoing, we write to request for an urgent meeting with you on this tragedy.”
However, president general of MWUN, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, attributed the death of his member to the dilapidated condition of the Apapa roads.
The union leader called on the government to urgently put in place palliative measures on the road before proper re-construction of the Apapa-Oshodi expressway, Lagos.
