Mutawalle plans 3 Ruga settlements in Zamfara

Zamfara state Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle said his administration would soon establish Ruga settlements in each of the three senatorial districts in the state.

This, he said, was to improve the wellbeing of Fulani communities and bring to an end the lingering security challenge bedevilling the state in the last eight years..

The governor said  this Sunday at a town hall meeting with Speaker House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila who visited the state to assess the security situation.

He said the state government, in conjunction with the state commissioner of police, Usman Nagoggo, had earlier in the month initiated peace and reconciliation with bandits.

The governor said in the last one week, the release of over 100 kidnapped victims was secured without paying ransom to the bandits.

Governor Matawalle further appealed to the federal government to come to the aid of his administration with all the relevant logistics to end security challenge facing the state, even as he commended the speaker for the visit.

In his remarks, the speaker, Hon Gbajabiamila said the federal government would recruit additional thousands of security personnel comprising police and army with a view to meeting the best International practices on security management.

He said the ratio of security personnel in the country, as presently obtained, did  not meet the best international practices, hence the need for additional hands to  address the security challenge in various parts of the country.

He stated that the recruitment would majorly be carried out by police, and that at the end of the training, the personnel would be redeployed to their respective states to serve.

The policy, Gbajabiamila said, was designed by the federal government to improve the nation’s security, employment and its socio-economic potentials.
