Murshid of Abuja National mosque Resumes

The newly appointed Murshid of the Abuja national mosque, Prof. Shehu Said Galadanchi has called on the Muslim Ummah to always remain conscious Allah and conduct themselves only within the limits of what Islam has made permissible.

Speaking to journalists shortly after leading his first Jumaat prayers in his capacity as the Murshid (administrator) of the national mosque Prof. Galadanchi said his sermon was centered on the significance of Friday in the life of a faithful. He said this significance is made more important as this Friday coincides with the Yaumul Maulid (birthday of the prophet).

“What is important to us on this day is to remember Allah and also to ask almighty Allah for his mercy and salat on the prophet”.

He added that the faithful should not desecrate Maulid by engaging in things that are outside of Islam.”This day is very important to us but I’m telling people that it does not mean we should gather together and have parties where we may have men and women mixing together in doing things which are outside Islam” he said.

The Murshid also confirmed that he has resumed when he was prompted by reporters. He said ” yes, I have already taken over now”.

With this change, Jumaat to prayer is now at 1PM while translations of the Friday sermon in the local languages has been allotted a total of 30 minutes collectively.

The Murshid will arrive for his qutbah and thereafter, commence the prayer at 1:45 PM.
According to Imam Adam, the changes were necessitated by the demand of worshippers who observe their Jummat prayers at the mosque.

Prof. Galadanchi became the Murshid of the national mosque following a restructuring of the administration and management of the mosque by the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs to meet global best practices in mosque management. He leads for other Imams in the running of the mosque.
