Mother docked for selling 3 months-old son for N.6m

Police in Niger state have charged a 31-year-old housewife, Eucharia Mbah, and two others identifi ed as Bright Ahuruegenma of Agape Church in Chanchaga area of Minna metropolis and one Peter Ani, to a Minna Magistrate Court for allegedly selling a three months old baby boy for N605, 000. Th e suspects were arraigned before the court yesterday on charges of criminal conspiracy, buying and selling of a minor in contravention of section 97 and 278 of the penal code law of Nigeria. According to police report, one Mr. John David of Mechanic junction in Chanchaga, sometimes this month reported at the police station that Amaka Bright of the same address and Bright Ahuruegenma conspired with his wife, Euchraia and sold his three months old baby.

Th e report indicated that Euchraia, who is the mother of the boy and Amaka Bright as well as Bright Ahuruegenma were said to had left Minna to Enugu state, where they allegedly sold the boy to Peter Ani of Apkuogo Street, Abapa Enugu at the said amount. Th e suspects pleaded not guilty to the off ences, when the case came up for mention. Presiding magistrate, Malam Hassan Mohammed granted bail to the mother of the boy, Eucharia Mbah on health ground, while Bright Ahuruegenma was granted bail because of her pregnancy. He, however, remanded Ani in prison custody and adjourned the case till today for further mention.
