‘More Northerners killed under Jonathan than during Civil War’

A former federal permanent secretary and Kaduna-based politician, Dr Hakeem Baba -Ahmed, has declared that more Northerners have been killed under President Jonathan’s close to six years regime than all the Northern civilians and military personnel that lost their lives during the Civil War.

He said: “What happened to the Northern part of this country under Jonathan’s administration is, therefore, a civil war under another guise; in the past six years hardly can a week pass without a report of killing of hundreds of Northerners, and it cuts across the two dominant religions, Muslim and

Christianity, but the victims are always Northerners or those living in the North.”
Baba-Ahmed, who stated this on a special Alheri Radio programme monitored by our correspondent, added that apart from the massive killing of Northerners by insurgents under the watchful eyes of security agencies, it was clear that the “present government is not only the worst in our history, but it has failed in all sectors; what we have in surplus is massive corruption and insecurity.”

“Take the issue of Baga town in Ngomboru Ngala local government area of Borno state where all villagers were killed, their houses burnt and some of them were buried in shallow graves; this is genocide, and this type of killing has continued in several parts of Borno state up to date. In Buniyadi Yobe state where students were killed and burnt, nobody, including the president, has bothered to visit the area.”

He added: “This is one of the reasons we, Northern leaders and Northern stakeholders, had a powerful meeting in Kano recently and made our position clear that the so-called national conference will produce nothing, but will only serve as a forum where 492 people will go there spend three months, drink enough tea, collect allowances and go home without achieving anything.”
