MJTF troops kill 64 terrorists in Cameroon, arrest 8 terrorists, lost 10 soldiers in battle

Troops of Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTF) have killed 64 Boko Haram terrorists and inflicted gunshot wound on several others during a gun battle in Darak in Northern Cameroon.


The MJTF troops, a coalition of Armed Forces of countries of Lake Chad Basin,  had in recent time recorded great successes in its operations against Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram terrorists in the fringes of Lake Chad Basin and Northern Cameroon.

in N’Djamena, Republic of Chad, Col. Timothy Antigha, said in a statement that the troops also captured eight terrorists during latest battle which he said occurred two days ago, when about 300 heavily armed Boko Haram terrorists invaded Darak. 


“However, they were met with stiff MNJTF resistance resulting in the a bloody gun battle which lasted for several hours,” he said.
Antigha said the MJTF lost 10 personnel, while eight soldiers also sustain various degrees of injuries. He added that eight civilian died while one sustain injury during the encounter with the terrorists.
He also said three boats belonging to the terrorists were destroyed and several arms and ammunition confiscated after the battle.
“This bold and ruthless response by the MNJTF is in keeping with the resolve of the Force to make the Lake Chad Area untenable for terrorists of whatever persuasion,” Antigha said.

He, however, cautioned some section of the media which he said publish false report on the troops operations in the Lake Chad Basin.
“Such report suggests sympathy and support for Boko Haram activities and narrative, at the expense of the efforts being made by a coalition of the Armed Forces of countries of the Lake Chad Basin,” he said.


“The MNJTF understands that the news business thrives on timeliness. However, it is always desirable to ensure that facts and accuracy are not lost in the quest for urgency, in order not to give the impression that evil is favoured over good.
“To facilitate the need of accuracy, the  MNJTF is always ready to respond to requests for verification or confirmation of information on occurrences within its Area of Operation.”
