Th e Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has trained senior offi cers of the Nigeria Air Force on agro businesses. Th e senior adviser to the minister of Agriculture and Rural Development on special projects, Miss Winifred Ochinyabo, during the sensitisation drive workshop on agriculture, yesterday said the training was to sensitise the offi cers on the need to invest in agriculture, saying food security is an integral part of national security. She said: “Th e Nigerian Air Force is at a position of advantage to Agriculture.

With deployment of Air Force infrastructure for Crop dusting and similar practices, the proposed one hectare- one family and triple C barrack programmes on crop cultivation competition, Agriculture on a large scale, which is our best option, can be taken to the next level. “Security personnel are trained combatants, and their blood and sweat are sworn for the protection of lives and properties of the citizenry. Th ey use most of their youthful lives to serve the Nation, ensuring that we are save from all forms of external and internal aggressions.

Th ey are not business people, and this, sadly, leaves them vulnerable in retirement. “With the emerging opportunities and possibilities appearing in the horizon in the area of agriculture, our valiant offi cers should never again be embarrassed with cash paucity after retirement. Th e ones in active service and their wards in the barracks must be catered for. We, at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, hope to open our servicemen to the opportunities in Agriculture, and to stand by you.

” Th e Chief of Air Staff , Air Chief Marshal, Sadique Abubakar, while declaring the workshop open, said the initiative was timely as it will enhance the force ongoing programme on agriculture. Abubakar who was represented by the Chief of Administration, Air Vice Marsha Alao said it will give the offi cers the opportunities to benefi t from the government diversifi cation plan as offi cer will be encouraged to go into agriculture. “We’ve been exposed to opportunities in the sector in forms of processing, marketing, warehousing. Truly alots of us are getting informed and now that we have a desk offi cer attached to the force, it will give is an opportunity to expand to our various commands that we have in the Air Force so that our offi cers can benefi t from the opportunities we have in agriculture.
