Minister tasks host communities on pipeline security

Minister of state for power, has challenged the host communities to ensure the safety of the gas pipelines running through their communities.
He stated this yesterday in Abuja at the steering committee meeting on Escravos –Lagos Pipe-line System (ELPS).
He assured that government would not renege on its earlier promise to deliver on the proposed 14 to 20mw Gas-fired plant for the area.

He said the Ministry would diligently perform its over-sight function in making sure that the project enjoys adequate budgetary provision and political would.
He promised that government would leave “no stone un-turned” in ensuring speedy completion of the project, assuring further that the people living in the host communities that government was prepared to listen to their genuine concerns.
He reminded the committee of the need to work hard, as Mr. President’s Transformation Agenda for the power sector was hinged on the availability of gas for power.

Similarly, the group executive, gas, NNPC, Dr. David Ige, described the proposed project as one of the many intervention programmes of government, saying by making Gas available there would be increased economic activities of the people.
“We are all united in protecting pipe-lines. The host communities, Delta state government, local governments in the area and indeed the federal government will use the project to build solid relationship that will protect the biggest and most important gas supply network in Nigeria,” he said.
