In a bid to address contentious areas of the Police Academy (Establishment Bill), 2018, the Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, has inaugurated a committee saddled with this responsibility.
A press statement by the Head, Press and Public Relations, Odutayo Oluseyi, Thursday in Abuja, said the minister while speaking at the inauguration, Wednedsay in Abuja, said the committee was a fall out of the retreat by the Senate committee on Police Affairs in collaboration with the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) in Lagos, where contentious issues of the Bill was analysed.
The spokesperson said the minister, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Maurice Nnamdi Mbaeri, explained that the membership of the committee was a reflection of various stakeholders who were free to consult and engage others for all-inclusiveness.
He listed the terms of reference to include: “To carefully study the entire content of the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment e.t.c) Bill 2018; and Obtain, Collate and examine input from the various stakeholders regarding the Bill.
“Obtain views and inputs and compare and contrast situations and circumstances from similar security training institutions such as Nigerian Defense Academy (NDA), Police Staff College, Jos (PSC) Police Anti-Terrorism School, Tai, Rivers state among others.
“Prepare and recommend a Harmonized Document out of the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment e.t.c) Bill, 2018 for presentation to the Senate Committee on Police Affairs for further necessary action.”
Responding on behalf of the 10-man committee, the Chairman, Barr. Tommy Mom, pledged to deliver the report within two-weeks as mandated.
