Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has distributed a total of 45 operational vehicles to security agencies in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at the tune of N400 million.
The cost of acquiring the vehicles according to the minister was inclusive of the information gadgets attached to the vehicles.
The minister said this at the handing over of the vehicles after an inspection of the city, on Monday.
“We have bought about 45 of them so that we can give our enforcing agencies additional facilities for routine motoring and inspection.”
Giving the breakdown of how the vehicles are to be shared, he said: “We are giving 35 vehicles to the police service of the FCT, SSS, we are giving them two, civil defence we are giving them one (additional), NDLEA, we are giving them one, Nigerian Immigration Service we are giving them one bus so that they can be carrying and repatriating all the aliens and Nigerian Prison service, we are giving them one black Maria, AHQ we are giving them one, brigades of guards we are giving them one, Navy we are giving them one and, of course, there are other services that we are going to give vehicles.”
“Of course Mr. President had drawn our attention to all these; I felt highly embarrassed because of course Mr. President is someone that does things systematically, and you can see how he is transforming the city, we are building roads and infrastructure but we cannot allow simple lack of capacity for enforcement to mar the successes that we are bringing.”
He said investment of about $5 billion had been attracted to the FCT, but that the social development issues were enormous living the enforcement agencies overwhelmed.
“We have brought in a lot of human capacity in terms of employment through SURE-P to do litter control and small enforcement and they are not being done; that is why we went round and we decided that we are going to set up an operational task force under the new commissioner of police.”
