The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, has commissioned a 20 Kilowatts, solar based station to provide un-interrupted power for women in hair dressing business at Wuse market in Abuja.
The project is to provide electric power through solar panels for hair driers, fans, clippers and ovens often in use by various customers that throng the market daily for hairdo.
Speaking at the occasion, the minister said the project would also provide electricity to some grocery shops around, promising that the project would be replicated in other markets across the country.
He said the primary focus of the project was to discourage the use of petrol/diesel powered generators that could infuse poisonous gases when attending to customers, adding that the project would empower market women and youth operating in the Wuse market.
He said the President Goodluck Jonathan had directed his foot soldiers to vigorously pursue the dream that no community would be left in darkness.
“This has informed this initiative and others like Operation Light-up Rural Nigeria,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Raphael Okorie, assured that the facility would be well protected and that it would be put to proper use.
