The Nigerian military has nothing practical to show to Nigerians in view of insecurity ravaging the country despite three years of huge budgetary allocations.
A renowned political scientist and activist, Dr. Jibrin Ibrahim, said this in an interview with BBC Hausa monitored in Kaduna.
Ibrahim, who is part of the protesters seeking recovery of the female students abducted on April 14, 2014, in Chibok, Borno state, said the highest military hierarchy had not demonstrated sheer patriotism.

He said: “The first solution to all these crises is for the military to stand up, step up and contain these challenges. For three years the there have been huge budgetary allocations to the military without practical result. The government and military are not doing anything strong that suggest that they are serious.

“They said they are serious but we are not seen anything it on the like that. Look at what happened in the area. The people of Chibok called military and alerted them that insurgents are operating there, yet nothing was done. When the left there, after two days the insurgents were stopping and the girls cooking for them and nothing was done. And that is why we are saying that there is nothing tangible on the ground.”
On foreign assistance, Ibrahim, who was immediate past director of Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), said: “Until the military passionately display and dissipate their strength in containing the insurgency, that is when they can seek assistance, but we have not seen anything tangible let alone justify what they want. The ideal thing is, until we see their best and then it becomes ideal.”
