Mentorship: College to host radio programme in el-Rufai’s honour

Destiny College, a private secondary school in Kaduna, will hold a radio programme on Sunday February 16, 2020 to showcase the grass to grace rise of Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna state.

The programme tagged “The Good and the Great” will be aired on Liberty Radio 91.7FM Kaduna between 4pm and 5pm to create avenue for younger Nigerians to pick one good thing or another that they can emulate from the challenges el-Rufai faced while growing up.

Proprietor of the College, Mr Olubusayo Akintunde, said, “Nigeria as a country we are blessed with societal icons and role models in governance, private sector and academic and we are proud to celebrate them.

“The good and the great is a programme about our icons, their educational life and challenges, so that the younger ones in primary, secondary and university will hear about them and be ready to take responsibilities.

“Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna state is one such icon, at six he has no shoes, at eight he lost his father but graduated as the best student at Barewa College in 1976 and as the best graduating student in ABU, Zaria. He faced challenging moments but they only make him stronger. The younger ones can learn from this.”

President of Destiny College Press Club, Khadija Shehu Jamoh said “celebrating birthdays of our societal icons and role models is the principal focus of this programme. We educate listeners on their early childhood, educational life and challenges, educational career, life achievements and their contributions to humanity and lessons to learn”.
Explaining what the radio programme entails, she said, “there will be five segments; welcome ride will educate the listeners on the icon: a talkshow tagged talking seriously with Aisha: pick a number where listeners can phone-in and answer questions on the icon: special presentations by invited schools and birthday felicitations.

“The special presentation segment will feature schools such as Kaduna Capital School, Queen Amina College Kaduna, Government Girls Senior Secondary School Kaduna and Barewa College, Zaria.”
