Mental health: Stakeholders converge on Nigeria, seek multi-sectoral approach

Leading health scientists, researchers, non-governmental organisations and stakeholders across Africa have again mooted a multi-sectoral approach to drive mental health reforms and improve the quality of care across the continent of Africa.

This position was restated at the 2024 International Mental Health Reform and Care in Africa Summit held in Abuja recently.

The programme was at the instance of the Association of Mental Health Reform Organizations in Africa (AMHROA Network).

There were other speakers like Dr. Hooe Ndola from Zambia, Prof. Helen Osinowo, Nigeria, Bakary Camara from the Gambia, Dr Priscillia Makau from Kenya, George Kesse from Ghana among others.

Chairman of the Mandate Health Empowerment Initiative (MHEI), Mr Zion Abba Ameh said the focus of the summit was to re-emphasise the need for mental health care in Africa.
