Masaka market elections postponed

The much-publicised general elections to elect a new leadership at the Masaka Market Traders Association (MTA) could not hold at the weekend as scheduled as it was shifted to October.

The management said the reason for the postponement was to allow the on-going building work of their new office that was gutted by fire recently to be completed.

Speaking to Blueprint, one of the chairmanship candidates, Simon Inusu Ali, said Masaka market was due for transformation and that if elected, he would ensure that he transformed it with new ideas.

He said: “Be rest assured that the revenue currently being generated by this market will be judiciously used to achieve the desired aims and objectives. There will be no more double payment of revenue in the market; in view of this, revenue collections will be centralised and monitored closely for probity and judicious use.

“I believe that the security of lives and properties within the market will be given a top priority; to achieve this, decent youths will be engaged on security.”

It would be recalled that the candidate had served as the treasurer of the association.
