Mark praises Team Nigeria

OjoSenate president, David Mark, has sent a solidarity message to Nigerian athletes and officials otherwise called ‘team Nigeria’ in the on-going 2014 Commonwealth Games holding in Glasgow, Scotland for their superlative performances so far.
In a statement issued yesterday by his chief press secretary, Mr. Paul
Mumeh, in Abuja, Senator Mark, in a goodwill message to the Nigerian representatives, expressed joy that the athletes were flying the nation’s flag very high in Glasgow.

He said the medals being won by Nigerian athletes especially in weightlifting and the women’s 100metres by Blessing Okagbare “are a clear manifestation that the nation has come of age in international sporting competitions.”
The Senate president assured the athletes and officials that the
Federal Government would do the needful in terms of their welfare and urged them not to rest on their oars in the medal chase.

He added that the National Assembly would continue to give adequate budgetary allocations to sports development saying that sports remain a potential ingredient for our unity as a people.
Senator Mark pointed out that sports is not just for entertainment but now a yardstick for measuring nations’ socio-economic and political strength.
Before the Nigerian representatives left the shores of Nigeria for Glasgow, on July 23, 2014, Senator Mark told them to rise up to the challenges of rekindling the winning spirit of the nation in international sporting competitions.

He told the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) president, Sani Ndanusa to leave no stone unturned in the quest for medals at the Glasgow meet for Nigeria.

Ndanusa had promised that the athletes would do the nation proud
“because we had good training with modern sporting facilities.”

Besides, he said government would not compromise the welfare of the
athletes and officials.
