Mark, Ihedioha to address Inter-Parliamentary Union today

Nigerian Senate President Senator David Mark and Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, leading the Nigerian Delegation to the 130th edition of Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva, Switzerland, would separately address the IPU plenary session today, a statement issued yesterday in Abuja said.
According to the statement, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference has in attendance the Assembly of 164 member nations.

The member nations Assembly is deliberating on “IPU at 125: Renewing our commitment to peace and democracy, contributions of parliament towards a nuclear-free-world as well as the role of parliaments in protecting the rights of children particularly in situations of war and conflicts.
Out going president of IPU Abdelwahad Radi in his opening remarks reminded Parliaments to work hard to strengthen peace and democracy across the world without compromise, the statement added.

The statement said that Radi, a Moroccan, canvassed the need to work towards the elimination of hunger among citizens of the world, ensure adequate shelter and provision of basic human rights like education and health care for citizens.

The Governing Council of IPU would on Thursday elect new President and Secretary General of IPU to replace outgoing Radi and Anders B. Johnsson who have served out their tenure.
Senator Mark had on arrival on Sunday received at the Geneva international Airport by Nigerian Permanent Representatives to the United Nations Ambassador Humphrey Orjakor.
