Man seized from police, burnt to death for blasphemy in Bauchi


A water vendor called Talle Mai Ruwa at Sade village in Darazo local government area of Bauchi state was seized from police station in the village by mob on Tuesday where he was being detained for allegedly blaspheming prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and lynched him.


The irate youth had after killing the alleged blasphemer burnt his corpse to ashes in a car tyre.


According to our sources, he allegedly made the blasphemy when a girl came to fetch water from his water source, a borehole without his consent and the aggrieved water vendor kicked her bucket and spilled it.


The source said the girl pleaded with him in the name of God and the prophet to allow her to fetch the water but he was angry that he allegedly insulted her parents and the prophet whom she mentioned while begging for the water.


It was gathered that his alleged blasphemous remarks triggered outburst and tension in the village such that the village head took him to police station where he spent the night.


“The next morning, the issue spread everywhere and everyone in the village was provoked. Later, group of angry youths stormed the police station, dorminated the police officers there and grabbed Talle. He was beaten to death and his dead body was burnt”. The source explained.


Efforts to get confirmation of the incident from the state police command failed as at the time of filing in the report as the police public relations officer of the command Ahmed Wakili was at a sports arena at police barracks while the commissioner of police Sylvester Abiodun Alabi was leaving office too at the moment.


Also, text and WhatsApp messages sent to Wakili to confirm the incident were yet to be answered at the time of filing in the report.
