Man seeks divorce over threat to life

A 48-year-old man, Oluyemi Adenekan, has urged the Agege Customary Court, Lagos to dissolve his 20-year-old marriage on the grounds of threat to life and his wife’s quarrelsome attitude.

The petitioner told the court that his wife, Hannah, once left him for four years and returned after she had two kids for another man, claiming that he would not have accepted her back if I was not under a spell by her.
Adenekna who maintained that he was charmed by his wife said that, “She nags a lot and fights me when we have any slight argument; sometimes, she will lock the door and wouldn’t allow me to go out.
“A week ago, when I was receiving a call, my wife came in and said it was a woman I was calling; she didn’t allow me to talk before she started throwing chairs at me.”

The father of four said that his wife used a stick to hit him on the head, which led them to the police station, adding that she is not at peace with the child another woman had for him as she often abused the child.
Responding, Hannah said that the allegations her husband levelled against her were false, however, she told the court that she was in another relationship when her parents forced her to marry Adenekan.
She said, “I am tired of the marriage as well; I went to where my heart belongs when I left him. If he wants dissolution, I am in support.”
The Court President, Mr. Philips Owolabi, asked them to maintain the peace and adjourned the case till April 10, for further hearing.
