Man remanded for ‘sexually abusing’ daughter

An Ikeja High Court has ordered a man in his mid-30s, Agu Echezona Harrison, to be remanded in Kirikiri maximum prisons for allegedly inserting his fingers into his six-year-old daughter’s private part.

Harrison was reported to the authorities by his wife, who also accused him of threatening her life for reporting the incident.

The defendant, who was arraigned on one-count charge bordering on sexual assault by penetration contrary to section 259 of the criminal law of Lagos state 2011 pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to the information before the court, the defendant who resides at No, 23, Rotimi Omotosho Street, Isheri Odun. Lagos state, had, between 2013 to 2015, sexually assaulted his daughter (name withheld) by inserting his finger into the girl’s vagina.

The prosecution counsel, Mr. Adebayo Haroun, told the court that the defendant had, between 2013 to 2015, sexually assaulted his daughter by inserting his finger into the girl’s vagina.

He said Harrison had been threatening the complainant, who happens to be his wife and mother of the victim, and urged the court to refuse the bail application of the defendant.

The judge in her ruling said: “in the interest of justice, I demand accelerated hearing in this matter,” and ordered the defendant to be remanded in the Kirikiri maximum prison.

The matter was adjourned till November 20, for commencement of trial.
