Man nabbed for beating policeman to death

The Police in Edo state have arrested a middle aged driver (names withheld) for allegedly beating one Osas Agbonmwenma, a Police Corporal, to death.
The deceases policeman, who was attached to St. Saviour Police Division, Benin, and his team, were said to have accosted the driver for driving an unregistered vehicle during a routine patrol.
Eyewitness account has it that, “The policemen ordered the driver to pull-over along Uwa Street by First East Circular Road Junction, on sighting him driving a car without plate number.

“When the driver refused and policemen attempted to forcefully take control of the vehicle leading to a physical combat between them as the driver grabbed the late Corporal policeman by the neck, so tightly that he became unconscious in the process.”
The eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity claimed that further attempts by other policemen to free their colleague from the driver’s grip by beating him harder failed to yield result.
When the other policemen succeeded in freeing their colleague they reportedly rushed him to a nearby hospital where he gave up the ghost.
The Edo state Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) Noble Uwoh, who confirmed the incident stated that the driver and the car were in the Police custody.
