The Gwarimpa Criminal Investigation Department of the Nigeria Police Force, recently arraigned one Emmeanuria Ekenne of Dutse Alhaji Street, Zone 5 , Abuja, in a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Karu, FCT, for drugging his girlfriend, Osemeka Nneka, of No 69, Lungi Road, Gwarimpa and stealing her car.
Nneka told Blueprint that January 30, this year, Ekenne met her and asked her for a date which she accepted.
She said when they eventually met, they went for a lunch, after which they went clubbing that same night.
Nneka added that during the one-day outing, Ekenne bought her some drinks but that unknown to her, Ekenne added some substances into her drink.
According to her, she could only remember that they were having some drinks together after she regained consciousness and saw herself all alone confused and surprised and even later realising that her car was no longer where she had parked it.
She said: “After some drinks, I became intoxicated and at the end of the day my Honda accord car with registration number GU 154 ABC had been taken away by Ekenne.
“In the car were some of my valuables, including clothes and office documents.”
Since that day, Nneka said she had not seen the suspect and her car again until he was sighted and arrested by the police on February 16 after she had lodged a complaint with the police.
However, the prosecutor, Sergeant Mohammed Garba, said Ekenne is facing a one-count charge of theft.
The accused admitted committing the crime during investigation; it contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code.
The accused had pleaded not guilty to the offence and the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Hadiza Dodo, granted him bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one surety in like sum.
She ordered that the surety must be reasonable and responsible with fixed, identifiable address and a source of livelihood and adjourned the case until June 9, for hearing.
