Man allegedly sells family home, exhumes parents’ corpses in Osun

There was uproar in Osogbo, Osun state, Tuesday, as a man, Mutiu Rauf Okunola, allegedly sold the family home of his late parents, Pa Azeez Rauf and Mrs. Rauf, and exhumed their corpses without the consent of his siblings.

The state police command said it has commenced investigation on the purported property, located in the Dada Estate area of Osogbo, which has become a focal point of contention among the deceased’s children.

The children of the deceased had accused Mutiu, also known as Tato, of selling the house and disturbing their parents’ graves without informing the other family members.

The dispute reportedly began when one of the surviving children, Mrs. Adedoyin Rukayat, discovered that the family property had been sold. Rukayat alleged that Mutiu not only sold the house but also exhumed their parents’ remains without consulting her or their siblings-Fatimo, Khadijat, Teslim, and Quadr Rauf.

Concerned about these actions, Rukayat reported the incident to the Dada Estate Police Station in Osogbo, which led to Mutiu’s arrest on December 31, 2024.

Police officers who arrived at the scene halted further exhumation of their mother’s remains after the grave of the late  Azeez had already been destroyed.
