The Islamic Counselling Initiatives of Nigeria (ICIN), has in collaboration with NASCO group carried out free medical outreach on malaria to IDPs and members of the Kufang community in Jos South local government area of Plateau state.
The 10th annual outreach themed; “Kick malaria out campaign for members of the community, IDPs and Children,” covered medical test, vaccines and distribution of mosquito treated nets.
Head of ICIN medical team Dr. Sani Suleiman said the scourge of malaria is today more dangerous than that of the HIV, because it is killing people rapidly.
He admonished beneficiaries of the outreach to use it for the prevention of mosquito bites.
Executive director of ICIN Hajiya Fatima Suleiman said they chosed Kufang being a proximate community to NASCO group of companies, so that the people can also benefit from its social cooperate responsibility.
“In the last 10 years we have given out 12,000 treated nets, besides testing, given out vaccines and freed health talk on how to keep the environment clean to prevent mosquito bites that causes malaria,” she said.
Ms. Suleiman said this time we are testing 1,000 women and mostly children, at the end vaccines and nets will also be given to each of them, adding that as part of its activities, ICIN will soon embark on door-to-door sensitisation campaigns.
The ward head of Kufang, Da Dung Chibi, said the gesture by ICIN and NASCO, is a health initiative that will go along away in stopping the scourge of malaria, in their community.
He said members of the community must use the treated nets donated to them effectively, while commending both the NGO and its partner in the project.
